Logo-TAA_100Contrast, relationship, symmetry, focal point, abstraction. ARE THESE TERMS YOU’D LLIKE TO GET TO KNOW BETTER?

Logo-TAA_100Would you like to approach designing new work WITH KNOWLEDGE AND CONFIDENCE?

Then this is the right class for you!

20 – 23 September 2018 | Confident Composition: Designing with Heart

Jane Dunnewold has taught color and composition for more than twenty years, with an emphasis on surface design and textile arts.

In this workshop participants will study the basic structures of strong composition –asymmetry and balance, for example– through enjoyable exercises which may later become inspiration for art work.

Each day will also include color work, using paints and paper, to explore a myriad of color relationships.

While basic concepts of design are rooted in science, and are therefore not negotiable, every artist’s approach to creating is personal and distinctive.

In addition to studying elements of composition and color, each student will be encouraged to review her own style and preferences, so as to discern the perfect point at which design “rules” and individual personality intersect.

Jane says:

I maintain working/classroom studios in San Antonio, Texas.

My passions include the psychology of artistry and meaning. I’m especially interested in “writing and making” as integral aspects of the creative process – and those “cross training” experiences led to my theories of “creative strength training” – strategies to cultivate creative stamina.

Everything I teach and do is filtered through a deep connection to the energetic, spiritual aspects of human experience. I believe each of us has an inner “creative.” Making things – whether it’s cooking or painting a room, or dyeing cloth – is supremely satisfying. In the process of creating we are linking to every generation of makers before us and reaching for the Divine at the same time. It’s a gift and a pleasure everyone should experience! And can.

F.A.Q.

Do I have to stay at one of the Hotels during the workshop?

No, there is no obligation to stay at one of our Hotels. However I have consistently heard that students get much more out of the experience if they eat meals and hang out after dinner with the other participants.

If you live here in Ticino, you can certainly book the workshop only.

But please note that on the first workshop day you should arrive at the hotel at 08:30 at the latest and departure should not be scheduled before 5:30pm on the last workshop day.

For how many nights do I have to book the Hotel?

Arrival is usually scheduled the day before the workshop starts, departure the day after the workshop ends (i.e. 5 nights for a 4 day class).

Check-in time from 2 pm, check-out time until 12 am.

You are invited to a welcome aperitif on the evening before, so be sure to be at the hotel by 5 pm.

Can I prolong or shorten my stay at the Hotel?

Yes. Your stay can be prolonged for a few days at the same rate.

If you’d like to shorten your stay, please note that on the first workshop day you should arrive at the hotel at 08:30 at the latest and departure should not be scheduled before 5:30pm on the last workshop day.
